MAP 357. STOLICZKA’S ASIAN TRIDENT BAT,

Aselliscus stoliczkanus

Distinctive Characteristics: HB 40–50; T 30–40; HF 9–10; E 10–14; FA 39–44; GLS 16. Size very small; fur long; basal part of dorsal hairs nearly white; hair tip brown; ventral surface paler than dorsum; upper margin of nose leaf with three distinct points; two accessory lateral leaflets on each side of nose leaf. Braincase low, rostrum deep, and sagittal crest well developed; postorbital processes lacking; first upper premolar lies in toothrow.

Distribution: Yunnan, Guangxi, and Guizhou (known records few); monotypic.

Natural History: A colony in Thailand roosted in loose association in limestone caves, with individuals at least 30 cm from one another. Reproductively active females have been collected in May and June in Laos and Vietnam.

Comments: Allen (1938) listed this species as Triaenops wheeleri.

Conservation Status: China RL—NT; although it nearly met the criteria for VU A1c.
